TU Dortmund University in cooperation with Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts would like to offer a space to exchange concerns, problems, information, and good practices with other researchers who care for children or for dependent relatives.

Researchers with family responsibilities face special challenges – not only in times of pandemic. They have to fulfill multiple expectations at work and at home, from supervisors, students, and family. If they have also just moved to Dortmund, there is often a lack of helpful network structures.

Therefore, the Graduate Center of TU Dortmund University and Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts have created the Shared Time “Family & Research”. Sessions will take place twice a year. The format provides practical and academic impulses surrounding questions of compatibility of family and career and serves as a platform for parents in research to connect and build networks of support.

On 29 June 2021, the specific topic will be “Family-Friendly Work Cultures & Leadership”.
What constitutes family-conscious leadership? What can I look out for as a (future) manager? How can I sensitize my professor to that topic?

After a brief introduction by Jeannette Kratz, Family Service TU Dortmund, our guests Prof. Dr. Anja Haftmann and Prof. Dr. Paul Czodrowski will provide insights into the practice of leadership in academia (and beyond). We will also talk with them about combining academic career and family life.

Which aspects are particularly important to you?

Please indicate questions, you would like to find addressed in regard of the session on “Family-friendly Work Cultures and Leadership”. You are also welcome to indicate topics and questions that are currently of most concern to you in terms of “Research & Family” as impulses for future events.

Please tell us your questions in the registration form, so that we can organize the exchange in the best possible way according to your interests.
