JProf TU: Social Media for Scientists

Presenting yourself and your research online, exchanging ideas with colleagues all over the world, publicizing your own research among laypeople, providing input for social debates or simply finding out about new developments in your own field of research as quickly as possible – all of the above are made possible by social media such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok or LinkedIn.

If you want to use the opportunities they offer, you need to understand how their algorithms work and which communication goals and target groups can be reached with the respective platform. In this short workshop, we will focus on LinkedIn and Instagram, but also get to know the X-alternatives Threads, Mastodon and Bluesky. After a brief theoretical input, participants will have the opportunity to try out the respective social media.
