The programme supports doctoral supervisors in developing and reflecting the necessary knowledge and skills to guide a diverse range of candidates.

The programme supports doctoral supervisors in developing and reflecting the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to guide a diverse range of candidates to successful and timely completion. It explores the changing roles and responsibilities over the doctoral life cycle and provides hands-on tools and recommendations to establish and maintain a positive working relationship – not only with doctoral candidates but also masters’ students and postdocs.

Learning Outcomes

By participating in the workshop, you will be better equipped to:

  •     understand the evolving nature and purpose of doctoral education
  •     build working relationships with both candidates and co-supervisors
  •     identify your requirements and recruit appropriate candidates
  •     support doctoral research projects and monitor progress
  •     scaffold professional and personal support to individual needs
  •     prepare effectively for thesis completion and examination
  •     develop your supervisory practice

 

  • Time: Tue, 05 March + Wed, 06 March 2024, 09:00-15:00 each day + 3 hours of pre-workshop activities

  • Target group: Junior Professors (with and without tenure track), Junior Research Group Leaders, Habilitation Candidates of the UA Ruhr Universities; max. 12 participants
