Science Communication, Outreach & Public Engagement
- Research Academy Ruhr
- Communicating, Networking, Negotiating
- For Postdocs
- Workshop
Capacities and skills in the areas of science communication, public outreach and stakeholder engagement are particularly vital for researchers who want to conduct research with and for society. They are crucial for designing and implementing “open innovation” processes in- and outside academia. Today, outreach and engagement activities should no longer be “add ons”, “soft skills” or “nice to haves”. They are already “should-haves” in all relevant funding policies: While BMBF and EU funding lines e.g. already implemented expected outreach activities in their programs, the DFG offers additional modules on “public engagement” that researchers can apply for.
This workshop will support you in considering why, if and how you can plan and realize outreach and engagement activities for your research, either driven by your own research interest or motivated by a specific funding programme. The interactive training invites you to gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the fields of science communication, public engagement and open innovation. You can reflect your own understanding, counterbalance invests and benefits, define your aims and work out first ideas for dissemination or outreach activities. In addition, you can reflect if and what might be expected in third-party funding programs.
The workshop will enable you to develop a stakeholder engagement and outreach strategy related to your individual research. Best practice examples will inspire you how to integrate stakeholder engagement and open innovation methodologies into research processes and funding proposals.
