Who among us hasn’t struggled to find time in our busy schedules to work on a dissertation, journal article, or research proposal?

Writing groups may help us deal with this challenge as they offer a supportive environment and opportunity to regularly exchange ideas about our writing project and its progress with like-minded people.  Sometimes, it might be helpful just to know that our peers and we share the same writing problems.

It is one’s writing process rather than the field of study that is the main determining factor for choosing one’s group. A writing group is a group of like-minded people who meet together to write, discuss their writing and related challenges, and offer each other feedback and support. Other benefits include motivation, accountability (I keep writing), and networking. Although writing groups come in different forms, they all share an understanding of writing as a collaborative and social process.

The Graduate Center and the writing instructors and consultants for German and English from the zhb / Department of Foreign Languages / w.space cordially invite you to a writing group kickoff that takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 13:00 p.m on October 05, 2022.

We support you and your writing in German and English.

The kickoff event is about getting together to arrive at some common understanding of a writing process, your writing needs, and your identity as a writer and about finding a group that works for you. In addition, we would like to learn more about your needs as writers and offer our perspective on some possible techniques and strategies, such as feedback methods and feedback types, efficient reading strategies, or peculiarities of writing an academic text in English.

We look forward to welcoming you at our kickoff event!
