The workshop introduces approaches, communication options, and scope for action for constructively shaping the supervisory relationship during the PhD. Participants familiarise themselves with the applicable framework conditions and the complex expectations of the various parties involved in these processes and actively and purposefully address (typical) challenges in the supervisory relationship. This strengthens participants' self-efficacy expectations so that they can develop individual options for action.

  • Information on formal and customary framework conditions for doctoral supervision (in Germany) (e.g. doctoral regulations, doctoral agreements, guidelines for good scientific practice)
  • Informal framework conditions: dealing with roles, expectations, demands and needs – your own and those of your supervisors
  • Supervision styles: how do my supervisor and I fit together?
  • Actively shaping the supervisory relationship: goal-oriented and sustainable communication and action strategies
