Career Orientation for Postdocs

This workshop supports participants in navigating their career orientation and decision-making processes by providing structured information, reflective tools, and opportunities for discussion.

Focal points:

• Academic career paths in national and international contexts: Framework conditions, statistics and trends, potential trajectories, qualification requirements, and the explicit and implicit rules governing different academic cultures.
• Alternative career options beyond Academia Career opportunities in science management, entrepreneurship/self-employment, the private sector, and public institutions – including entry pathways, requirements, and working conditions.
• Making informed career-decision Developing personal decision-making criteria, analysing career scenarios and their implications for professional and private life.
• Timing and Resources When is the right moment to make career decisions? How long should open-ended orientation processes last? What resources are available and helpful?

Trainer:

Dr. Margarete Hubrath is national and international trainer since 2001, consultant, and coach in academia; founder and director of uni-support.
Systematic training as a coach for individuals and groups (ISP/DGFC; 2005 co-founder of “Coachingnetz-Wissenschaft” (network of coaches in academia).
Research, teaching and committee experience at different universities and a research institute. 
Main focus of work: 

• Individual academic career counselling and consulting
• Preparation for appointment procedures and negotiations in academia (different academic systems)
• Academic leadership

Target group: Postdocs of all research fields of the UA Ruhr universities (max. 12 participants)
