As you transition from the writing you did in college to the graduate-level, you may find yourself in unfamiliar or even frustrating situations.
For example, instead of writing within the confines of a supportive classroom environment, you now operate within a community of experts, many of whom are more experienced than you or do not know you personally.
The views of those experts on what matters in a particular scholarly debate might differ from your views on the same topic.
You are in a situation where your writing must speak for you with clarity and scientific rigor. Thus, for example, a failure to articulate clearly one’s contributions is one of the most common reasons for publication rejections.
The info session offered by the writing lab w.space, zhb Division of Foreign Languages, unpacks the key shifts in how experienced writers approach their work by answering these questions:
- What are the common “old” habits and assumptions that may hold emerging writers back?
- What is it that expert writers know or do that makes them successful?
- What are the “new” knowledge and strategies that expert writers obtained via experience?
- How does the writing lab w.space can help you grow as an academic writer?
